Economic metropolis Guangzhou

Guangzhou in the profile

Guangzhou is one of the most important ports of China and also a city well-known for old culture in the Middle Kingdom. Already in the Qin dynasty Guangzhou was the seat of the government of the prefecture Nanhai. It is the first coastal town of China opened outward.

Administration: Guangzhou is the capital Guangdongs and ranks among the largest cities of South China. It is subordinatet in eight urban districts and four city districts. Approximately 9 millions inhabitants live in this megacity, who are mainly Cantonese and which speak for north Chinese an incomprehensible dialect.

Location: Guangzhou is located on the Pearl River delta in the province Guangdong, which is limited in the southeast by the South Chinese Sea, by Hong Kong and Macao.

Attractions of the city: The Zhenhai tower, the grave of the Nanyue king, the ancestral temple of the family Chen, the Liurong temple, the memorial hall for Dr. Sun Yat-sen.



Climate:
Guangzhou is located in the subtropical zone. Mostly it is warm, often rainy and always green. The average temperature is 22 C. The highest temperature is reached in July and August with up to 40 C, the lowest in January with 4 - 5 C. From March to August it is the rain time.

Metropolis at night

Entertainment in the evening: during the last years innumerable discos, pubs and great bars (often with karaoke) developed in Guangzhou. The sublime restaurant scene is first-class and can keep up with European metropolis.
Furthermore there are a number of larger and smaller theatres, where Yue operas, dramas, akrobatics, singing and dance as well as concerts are presented. The city has numerous tea houses inviting to stay and to rest.
